Tomorrow is the LAST DAY for our Salvation Army Canned Food Drive! So far we have collected 3,382 cans. Can we hit 4000???? With your help, we can. If each student brings in one can or box good tomorrow we will pass 4000! And several classes are in the running to earn a party! So bring in those cans and help the less fortunate.

GEARS before-school students are really working hard completing homework assignments, extra reading, and participating in Karate Club with Sensei Jon McFarland, every other Wednesday morning. Sensei Jon likes to teach our students self defense, discipline, and how to be kind to each other. Every afternoon in GEARS after-school, our students participate in three club rotations, complete homework, and then work on reading or math enrichment. An outreach representative with Girlscouts of Ohio's Heartland helped our girls work on their backpack program and learn more about being responsible community members, while Isaac Bush, from Kids America, taught our boys soccer skills and teamwork. Mrs. Yoder has also been busy helping our students engage in STEM activities and expand their knowledge. We have implemented a new student incentive program. Our students received a bracelet and a punch card. Each morning or afternoon if they have followed the rules and completed their assignments, they receive a punch on their card. After ten punches, they earn a charm for their bracelet. GEARS was also featured in an article in the November 10, 2022 Beacon. All students and staff continue to work very hard academically and social-emotionally.

As we approach the busy holiday season, we are reminding students to please return their library books promptly. Books are loaned for a period of 2 weeks and can be renewed if necessary. You and your child should receive a notice via your email addresses once a book is overdue. After one month, if the book hasn’t been returned, we must bill for the cost of replacement. Books tend to hide in desks, cubbies, and backpacks. Let's help make it a habit to check for books every day in these hiding places and at home. Let’s make sure every student who visits the library in search of their favorite book gets the chance to read it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jo1RLPoD6s
