Hello, this is Dave Hire with two important announcements for all parents and staff. First, the Coshocton City Schools will not be enforcing the masking requirement for staff and students starting tomorrow morning, and will provide a two-week grace period through Labor Day. Masks will be strongly encouraged and parents who want their children to wear masks will have their request honored. We recognize that there are concerns and confusion resulting from the timing of the board action, forms provided at the Open House giving parents an option, as well as the difficulty of wearing masks indoors without air conditioning at the high school. Again, the requirement to wear masks will not be enforced for at least the first two weeks of school. Masks will still be required on all buses as required by the CDC. Students will be provided a mask if they do not have one. Second, there has been talk about a peaceful protest tomorrow morning. We do not anticipate this protest will interfere with students or staff entering our buildings. While we believe that everyone has a right to free speech, we also believe that our staff and students have the right to arrive at school feeling safe and secure. For that reason, we will have Sheriff deputies on site to ensure the feeling of safety for staff and students.

Hello, this is Dave Hire, Superintendent at the Coshocton City Schools, with an important announcement for all parents and staff. Last evening the Board of Education discussed and voted to require masks indoors for everyone during school hours. The Board is concerned about the safety of all, both students and staff, and they want to be proactive to help prevent any outbreaks, so we can keep our students in school. I share these concerns with them, and I agree that this is the best course of action. The medical experts, including the Ohio Department of Health, all agree that the best prevention against this new highly contagious variant is vaccination and masking indoors. Masking is our best chance to keep our kids in our classrooms and not have them quarantined. Students exposed as a close contact can remain in school and extracurricular activities if they are masked, and do not exhibit symptoms. It is with the best intentions to keep our students safe and able to participate in face-to-face instruction. I understand that not everyone will agree with these measures. It is a proactive measure to help keep our students safe and in school. I apologize for this late notice and for the inconvenience to our families as we do our best to stay on top of a rapidly changing situation. Please visit our district website for more information.
